So I had to look up ‘motte’.
Did that, but the first definition that popped up was from the Urban Dictionary. To wit:
“Motte:
Olde English word for clitoris. Comes from motte and bailey castle, where the motte was a mound with a stronghold and the bailey was an enclosed courtyard.”
Ok. Well, I did find a definition more suitable for your above context.

I was just thinking of the term “motte-and-bailey” as describing a style of argument, of course.
Well, the other definition has been known to instigate another style of argument as well.
I’ve heard “luck egalitarianism” expressed before as ‘life’s lottery’ and ‘birth lottery’. Sometimes even ‘income lottery’. Put in these terms, the sale to students will be easy.
